Where is Cambodia?
Cambodia is located in Southeast Asia, bordering the Gulf of Thailand, between Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. A country of some 13.8 million people, most inhabitants trace their roots back to the Khmers, descendants of the Angkor Empire that extended over much of Southeast Asia and reached its zenith between the 10th and 13th centuries.
What is the purpose of the Cambodian American Heritage Museum?
The museum educates the general public of the Cambodian genocide of 1975 – 1979 and its aftermath, facilitates healing among Cambodian refugees and other survivors of war and genocide, and celebrates the renewal of Cambodian culture and community in the United States.

What is Khmer?
Khmer refers to the predominant ethnic group of Cambodia, as well as the official language spoken in Cambodia. The language is heavily influenced by the ancient Sanskrit of India, particularly as a vehicle to transmit Buddhism and Hinduism. While there are similarities to Thai, Lao and Vietnamese, it is a distinct language of Southeast Asia.
